Mount Damavand guided tour from north-east route - summer 2011
North East side of Mt Damavand

North-East route is another popular route to the peak. It goes through North-East ridge that is called Takht-e-Fereydun. That name comes from mytghological story of Zahhak and Fereydun. There is a hut in this route at the altitude of 4300m. So, we will spend one night in a camp site somewhere inbetween the way to the hut or go directly to the hut and spend two nights there for acclimatization. Also, we will go up on the North-East glacier with a fantastic view of steep valley of Yakhar glacier right beside this route. At the end, we will come back from the hut directly to the village and drive back to Tehran in the last day.

5 days (6th day is considered as reseved day for bad weather)

Scaling Damavand from north-east route is not a technical climb. It just needs good health and stamina as well as ability to trek in high altitude. In last par we may need to put on crampons, when we pass over the glacier.

Day 1 : Drive from Tehran to Nandal village (2400m) in northern downhills of Mt Damavand; overnight in a local house
Day 2-4 : Acclimatization and summit push from North-East route; overnight at hut/camp
Day 5 : Trekk down to Nandal village; Drive back to Tehran
Day 6 : Reserve day for bad weather condition or more acclimatization

The best season to ascend mount Damavand is June to September. In this season weather condition is usually stable, though there is a chance of snowfall at the peak even in mid summer.
