mount damavand ski mountaineering guided tour
Ski mountaineering in Damavand in March

   Tour Description
Weather condition in mount Damavand is harsh and severe in winter time. Since the middle of October we expect snow fall in high altitudes, which means the condition is considered like winter. From the end of December till next May there is usually enough snow for skiing, but March and April are the best months of the year for ski touring in Damavand region. We recommend you to be informed of the snow condition in the region, before leaving for a ski touring trip to Damavand.

The south side of Damavand is the easiest one to access during winter and early spring. This side has a gentle slope for skiing, but you need previous experience of ski touring in the altitude and need to be fit to have more chance to reach to the summit.

In this package, we start by warming up and acclimatizing in a mountain in the vicinity of Damavand, before going up toward the summit. Depending on the snow condition, we may go for Mt Angemar(4150m), Mt Amiri (3900m), Mt Pashooreh (3900m) or Mt Golezard(3700m). In good and clear weather, you can see a magnificent view of Damavand in the acclimatization day that makes you motivated for next coming days. Then you can go up to the Asia's highest volcano and enjoy from 3000 meters downhill skiing!

   Tour duration
Seven days

   Tour difficulty
South side of Damavand is not so steep. The average slope is around 30 degree. But you should be able to ski everything. Indeed, the snow condition is changing all the time. So, we recommend it to those who are absolutely fit and have previous experience of ski mountaineering.

   Itinerary
Day 1 : Checking our gears and providing any left item in the equipment checklist; Two-three hours drive from Tehran to Polour village (2350m) in south side of Damavand; Overnight in the local house or lodge

Day 2 : Ski touring and acclimatizing in a mountain in the region; drive back to Polour at the evening; Overnight in the local house or lodge

Days 3-6 : We consider these 4 days for acclimatization and summit push in Damavand, when we look for a weather window. From the top, at almost 100 meters lower than the summit, we can ski for more than 2500 meters of altitude to BC! Overnight in the mountain refuge/tent

Day 7 : Drive to Ab-e-Garm for relaxing time in hot spring; Three hours drive back to Tehran

   Ski season in Damavand
Each year, from early November to next April, we expect snow fall and sub-zero temperature in high altitudes of Damavand. In the early months in this period, the snow is not stabilized well, but since early March to the end of April there is usually good and enough snow to ski.
In May, you should expect slushy snow of the late season in lower parts, where the snow fields are shorter too. Anyhow, we definitely recommend you to contact us to be informed of the snow condition before coming for it.
